In late 2018, USA Baseball launched Pure Baseball as its zero-tolerance campaign for any type of abuse within the sport of baseball. Over the course of the last few years, we have seen abuse of minor athletes within the US Olympic family come to the forefront. Too many athletes went unprotected from predators within their sport, which led to the creation of Senate Bill 534. Through SB534 and the governance of the US Center for SafeSport, there are many policies now in place to ensure minor athlete well-being is at the forefront of every sport.
There are four components of Pure Baseball: Reporting, background checks, education and training and minor athlete safety policies. For the full USA Baseball pure baseball Policies and Procedures, please click here

With respect to reporting, USA Baseball holds a public facing list of banned and suspended individuals within the sport of both baseball and softball. Individuals on this list are identified as having disqualifying factors limiting them from participation in baseball. Further, we want to ensure that everyone within our game knows they are responsible for reporting any abuse or suspicion of abuse to the local authorities within 24 hours of discovering this information.
USA Baseball’s national service provider for background checks is JD Palatine. For more information regarding the law and background checks, click here
While USA Baseball executive staff and national team personnel are required to complete the US Center for SafeSport Core Courses to satisfy the educational requirements of SB534, USA Baseball has created two of its own Abuse Awareness online courses – one for adults and one for minors – for the general public. These courses will satisfy the requirement for all baseball organizations outside of USA Baseball’s covered individuals and its local affiliate organizations. The US Center for SafeSport has developed model policies that need to be adopted by National Governing Bodies of sport. Where a National Governing Body fails to produce their own minor athlete safety policies to limit one on one interactions between minor athletes and participating adults, the model policies of the US Center for SafeSport become the default. USA Baseball has developed its own Pure Baseball Policies and Procedures and within these are specific minor athlete safety policies. We encourage all baseball organizations to adopt our Pure Baseball minor athlete safety policies to protect all constituents within their organization.
USA Baseball is not only providing a background check solution and FREE
education and training to meet the requirements set out by law, but also providing a way for organizations to easily track who has completed both components, thus making them compliant with the law. By successfully completing a standard background check and the Abuse Awareness Course for Adults, an individual will receive a Pure Baseball Compliant designation.
